Weekend outtakes #2 | Of lounging and cooking

Here's what I've been up to...

1) Sundays are my utmost favourite day to lounge around in my jammies while drowning myself with some of my favourite youtubers or catching up on my series. I've been watching Reign and loving it! Francis and Mary are per-fect!!

2) I came across a recipe for Vietnamese Bahn Mi (vietnamese sandwhich if you didn't know) and wanted to try making it. I got to say, it was a success! Although missing the actual bread for the sandwhich, but the marinated chicken tasted so good. I think i'll name this the "Decompose Chicken Bahn Mi".

3) I'm really into burning candles lately. It's calming and makes my room smell so nice. I would light one up just before getting into bed. I've been burning the Woodwick lemongrass candle and it's so soothing to hear the little crackles coming from it.

4) I'm starting into a routine to actually pick up a book to read right before bed. Just little steps to unwind myself from the day full of electronics. I can totally feel my eyes being all tired and dry from the long day sitting in front of my laptop or looking at my phone too much. I'm currently reading Game of Thrones (join me for #mabesbookclub) and starting to see how good the book is. Though I've watched a couple of GoT episodes but I think I prefer the book.

Even though it's only the start of the year, I feel quite burnout from day to day. I need to start incorporating little steps to de-stress in my daily routine.

How have January been treating you?

Beauty | January Favourites

January haven't been an adventurous month for me. Sticking much to the basics to get me through every morning, here's what I've been loving...

I'm not much of a lashes kind of girl. I could just leave the house with a nicely done eye look and leaving my lashes without any mascara on. But since discovering Tarte Lights Camera Lashes mascara, I can totally say I'm a convert now! I've been reaching for this everyday. It lengthens, thickens and holds the curl throughout the day. I haven't been loving a mascara as much as this one. Kudos to Tarte! At the end of the day, it was the easiest mascara to remove.

A trip down to the drugstore and a repurchase of the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer has creep itself up onto my January favourites. The hype around this product is so true. It has a good coverage for redness or under eyes at the same time it last throughout the day (if you set it well). It blends out evenly too.

On the eyes, I've been wearing Naked 2 and Faint quite a lot this month. It's just so easy to sweep this across the lids and add on a layer of Tarte Lights Camera Lashes mascara, and i'm all ready to go! On days where I keep it simple I would just sweep Faint all over the lids and leave it at that. Making sure to blend it out nicely. I got to say, I'm really getting a lot of wear out of the Naked Basics palette.

Real techniques brushes has been on my Beauty Wishlist for quite some time now. I finally bit the bullet and get it in December. BEST purchase ever! I've been using the multipurpose brush for my blush now. It's the softest brush ever.... Now this has got to be a collection worth investing in.

What's your January favourites?

Book Club | Post reading : The Jewel

Finally... It took me quite long to finish The Jewel. This was suppose to be Mabes December book club reading but I guess due to the many holiday celebration, I have only recently manage to finish it. I can already tell you that I wish the sequel is out so that I can pick it up from the bookstore once I put this down.

Amy Ewing definitely leave you wanting and needing to know what could have happen to Violet at the end of the story..  She has beautifully written the story in such a way that you feel frighten yet excited at the same time as the story unfolds.

The dystopian story revolves around Violet Lasting which starts of at a facility area where they train Surrogates. Where at one point of time, she would than be auctioned off and move to The Jewel (which is suppose to be the higher/royal city) to bore a baby for the buyer. The whole idea revolving around selling girls and the way the royal treats them is quite frightening. The disturbing scene of surrogates being killed and mistreated are so vivid. They are to perform "Auguries" which is like magic even though it hurts to do it. But amongst all that is going, Violet met a boy whom she love. Both of them come from a different world and they can never be seen together. On top of all this, Violet has intentions to leave the Jewel.

The Jewel was such an easy read with emotions being thrown around. Yet I think there are more to learn about the setting of the story. Amy has left our imagination run wild.

What do you think of The Jewel?

Nails | Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy in Pocket Aces

Gel nail polished without the need of UV light just makes me jump inside. Specially formulated nail polish that stays on and last at least a week without chipping gets onto my favourites list.

Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy in Pocket Aces is right up my alley. Having to stay well for almost a week whilst looking all shiny and nice. I manage to pick this up in Singapore, sadly, I haven't manage to spot this range of nail polish in Malaysia. If you know where I can get this than do let me know as I want to get hold of some other colors.

I got to say, I really love the formulae for this - not because that it gives a gel polish effect but because it's so smooth to apply and it dries very fast. Talking about no more waiting for an hour for the nail polish to set! The color glides on smoothly and evens out so nicely. Leaving it at one coat is not a problem. Pocket Aces is more of a coral/orange-gy/red color. A pretty nice shade that is not too OTT but not too subtle.

What are your thoughts on Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy?

Hair | Now I know why everyone raved about Batiste Dry Shampoo

Sporting that second/third day hair with all the grease thats starting to build up, yet you're still trying to make it work? Here's the solution, dry shampoo!

I never really knew the fuss about dry shampoo and yet I see people raving about it all the time. Particularly the Batiste dry shampoo. So when I chance upon a blogpost on Fiona's about the batiste dry shampoo and that it has reached our Malaysian shores, right away I need to get my hands on them. Since watching so many youtubers raving about it.

I picked up the fruity and cheeky cherry scent. After giving it a go on my second day hair, I now knew what the fuss was. My second day hair looked fresh and smells nice at the same time it has the volume. I'm sold on the dry shampoo bandwagon. I use it in the morning when I feel that my hair needs the extra lift, sometimes I use it at night and get to bed with the product and wake up with a fresh hair.

The directions of using the dry shampoo is straight forward. You shake it up so that it's properly mixed in the canister, lift a portion of you hair that you want to de-grease and spray it right at the roots. Take some time to massage the product into the roots making sure there's no residue left and viola....

Batiste dry shampoo is available at selected Village Grocer and Aeon Big outlet retailing at RM 24.90 for 120g.

What's your take on dry shampoo? Love it or hate it?
